sourcing

Our aim is to provide aesthetic African art pieces that are uniquely made with stones that are locally and responsibly sourced from talented Shona in the Sub-Saharan Africa region and handcrafted by artisans using traditional methods passed down through generations.

We find our products by visiting artisans at markets in urban areas or visiting the remote rural villages, and building and maintaining relationships with artisans is important, contributing to sourcing quality items.

Kuveza has business is comprised of two components. “Retail” which deals with higher value stone sculptures that are displayed in Kuveza’s Online Gallery website, and typically sold as individual items. “Commercial” deals with lower value items i.e., baskets, stools etc offered in bulk quantities only.

Our strategy is to market these items for sale in bulk quantities targeting with local and international markets, focusing mainly on retails stores, interior decorators or buyers for hotels, decorating offices, etc.

retail

The retail offering includes high quality professional photos of stone sculptures on our online gallery and sculptures carved out of a variety of high quality stones, with beautiful finishings. The online gallery is e-commerce enabled, allowing acceptance of payment, shipping and delivery anywhere in the world.

items available in bulk to order

Our company profile and catalogue only depicts a number of examples of the types of items that are available via our network of artisans (i.e. baskets, stools etc). Upon request, an updated catalogue can be supplied to a prospective buyer. However, should a prospective buyer not find a particular item, we encourage them to engage with us. Once we understand their needs, we can engage with our artisans about sourcing or producing the items. A proposal is prepared for the prospective client.

minimum and maximum order quantities

Due to their nature, the individual cost of items is typically lower value (compared to retail items). Consequently, minimum order quantities are imposed to ensure commercial viability of this bulk offering. In terms of maximum order quantities, there is a specification for each product which is informed by our discussions with artisans on the typical levels of stock and time to produce the items. However, it is important to note that should a prospective client require order volumes that are outside of the guidance, this can be discussed. A formal proposal is then prepared for consideration.

pricing

Pricing is affected by a number of considerations in terms of the commercial offering (for example the volume of items, etc). The indicative “price per item” is shared. However, “total pricing” for the entire order (incl. volume of items) is confirmed in the proposal, for consideration by the prospective buyer. Typically, orders for higher volumes will result in a reduction in the indicative “price per item”.

lead times per product

Guidance is shared in relation to the average lead time per product. However, the actual lead times may differ due to various considerations specific to a prospective client (i.e., volume of items ordered, geographic location of deliveries, etc). The formal proposal will take into account all considerations and confirm exact lead times.

order process

Order process should make allowance for both website and manual. Nature of backwards/forwards engagement with commercial (incl. large) clients likely means addressing unique needs via a proposal.

new product procurement process

Ongoing review of the items listed in our Commercial Catalogue will result in changes to our product list, including specifically the addition of new products. New product procurement process includes:

  1. Identifying a specific artisan capable of supplying/producing the product (i.e. sculptor etc).
  2. Explaining the Kuveza business model to the artisan (i.e. they become a supplier to Kuveza).
  3. Signing up the artisan as a new supplier (i.e. obtaining their contact details, physical location, etc).
  4.  Procuring a sample (or few samples) of the product that the artisan is capable of supplying.
  5. Discussing the “typical volumes/quantities” and associated “lead times” the artisan can handle.
  6. Agreeing the pricing for the items (i.e. wholesale pricing that Kuveza procures from the artisan).
  7. Kuveza team will arrange with photographer for professional (HD) photos of the new product.
  8. Updating Kuveza’s master spreadsheet catalogue (i.e. capturing details of the new product).
